Viruses

Similar to biological viruses, a computer virus is "a self-replicating computer program that spreads by inserting copies of itself into other executable code or documents", according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus). Examples of virus types include Trojan horses and worms. There are many different viruses and mutations; there are also virus hoaxes. New viruses and hoaxes come out all of the time. It is, therefore, very important to install anti-virus software on your computer and to keep the virus definitions (aka, DATs) up-to-date. Many different vendors provide anti-virus software, including McAfee, Symantec and Trend Micro.

Requirements

To comply with Clean Access (CCA) for all operating systems, you must have installed anti-virus software, as well as up-to-date DAT files. To meet this requirement, you may install the anti-virus software from your choice of vendor. If you do not have ani-virus software currently installed on your computer, or if your anti-virus software is out of date, Spring Hill College provide McAfee anti-virus software to students, faculty and staff (free of charge). To install SHC's McAfee software, follow the instructions, below.
