Preparing your computer for ResNet access

Students connecting to the Spring Hill College network, including the residential network (ResNet), do so through the Clean Access (CCA) agent. Deployed in August 2005, CCA verifies that student computers meet criteria that will help ensure the overall security of the SHC network. When a student first connects, CCA will deliver software to the computer if it runs Windows ME or newer. Windows 98, Mac OS and Linux computers will be scanned by the system, but will not have any software downloaded.

After completing the installation, CCA will verify the overall level of critical updates from Microsoft, as well as the status of antivirus software updates. Systems not meeting minimum criteria will be directed to the appropriate web page for assistance. No access to the network will be granted until the system has met the minimum security criteria. The first time a student computer accesses the network under CCA, this process may require the visit to several web pages to conduct multiple updates. Future visits should allow quicker access since the system will be updated already.

To streamline this process, students can prepare their computers (see links, at right) prior to arrival at SHC.

Spring Hill College's residential network, known as ResNet, provides students living in the residence halls the ability to further their educational experience by connecting to the college network and to the Internet. The college network is a shared resource and is to be used primarily for academic purposes.

ResNet users must comply with all College, local, state, and federal laws and regulations. By connecting to ResNet, the user agrees to the terms and conditions of the ResNet Network Usage policies and all other College policies.
